The autumn has found us.

It has found us all three in different countries; Emma in Helsinki, Vanessa in London and Pinja in Kyoto.

Naturally when you find yourself far from your friends, you might start to miss them. That happened to us as well. So our new project is about trying to keep in touch with each other regardless of the miles, timezones or different interests. Maybe there could be a possibility for intimacy through distance via photography.

So, what do we do, then? We ask each other a question once in a week. The questions can be about whatever we would like to know about what´s going on in the other´s life. And the other person who´s been asked the question, must reply to it with an image. We post the images then to this blog for our pleasure and yours. Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we do, where ever you might be.

Toiset Toiset Kengät/ Another Pair of Other Shoes

Kettu 2000-kollektiivin installaatio nähtiin helmikuussa galleria Jangvassa. Materiaalia Toiset Kengät-installaatiosta on nyt huhtikuun ajan, 7.4.-3.5., esillä Kamera-gallerialla Kampissa. Esillä on muun muassa valokuvia, osia päiväkirjoista ja videon lopun puheenvuorot.

Emma on tavattavissa gallerialla, osoitteessa Lastenkodinkuja 1, lauantaina 10.4. klo 11-14.

The collective Kettu 2000's installation was exhibited at Gallery Jangva in February. From 7.4. until 3.5. material from Other Shoes -installation is on display at Kamera-gallery in Kamppi, Helsinki. Among other things photographs, excerpts from the diaries, and the end statements of the videos are being shown there.

There's also a chance to meet one of the artists Emma at the gallery (Lastenkodinkuja 1) on Saturday 10th from 11-2.

Cunning as foxes, sharp as knives, and working hard.

You shouldn't judge a fox before you've walked a mile in her shoes though.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Foxes have finally released their Other Shoes to go out kicking and dancing. What this means is, that the exhibition is on and you should all go see it!

The foxes gave an interview to the biggest newspaper in Finland, Helsingin Sanomat, and it can be read in here.

We Love Helsinki -blog also wrote a story about the Other shoes, check it out!

There's going to be another interview at Hufvudstadsbladet tomorrow, I'll post a link when it's up.

At late night strange things do happen.

Kettu 2000's Other Shoes in English:

Kettu 2000 is a collective formed by three aspiring photography artists Emma Suominen, Pinja Sormunen and Vanessa Virmajoki. The collective’s project Other Shoes will be exhibited at Gallery Jangva in January - February 2010.
Other Shoes is a project were the artists swapped their lives for a week. They swapped everything; families, friends, apartments, jobs, schools, clothes, money, computers and phones. Before the exchange week the women had written some survival guides for the person stepping in their shoes, which were there to help to get through the week. The aim was to literally fill the other person’s shoes, but to also try to get a grip of the other person’s identity and way of thinking in the everyday life.

The life as the other was daily documented and interpreted by taking self-portraits. In addition to them each of the women documented the week using tools of their choice, for instance using video and text. The artists’ experiences of taking on the other’s identity, and its difficulties and successes, will be portrayed at Gallery Jangva in the form of a video installation.
The participants of the project are of the same age, but in pretty unalike life situations. Pinja Sormunen lives with her boyfriend in Eira, Helsinki, and is studying photography at the University of Art and Design. Pinja is also studying Japanese and her hobbies include e.g. meditating. Emma Suominen stepped into Pinja’s life.

Emma is a freelance photographer from Punavuori, Helsinki. Her everyday life consists of working, cultural avocations, sports and parties. Vanessa Virmajoki walked in Emma’s shoes for the week.

Vanessa lives in East-London with her brother and two other flat mates. She graduated as a photographer at summer 2009. Vanessa’s life comprises of miscellaneous photography jobs and includes an expansive and colourful social circle. Pinja Sormunen took on Vanessa’s life for the week.
